Our Story
A walk through a cemetery changed everything.
We raised our family near a cemetery. To some that might sound like an unusual backdrop for a childhood, but to us it was simply part of the neighborhood — quiet, green, and full of history. On weekends, the quickest and safest path to the local farmers market cut right through it, and so we walked those paths often, my oldest daughter and I, past the rows of stone markers and the names etched into them.
She was young and curious — the way children are before the world teaches them to stop asking questions. One morning she stopped at a particular headstone, looked up at me, and started asking the kinds of questions only a child thinks to ask. Who was this person? Where did they live? What did they do for fun? What school did they go to? Did they have a dog?
I smiled and told her we could look it up when we got home. This was the age of the internet, after all. Surely a few keystrokes would bring this person's life into focus.
They didn't. What I found — after navigating a maze of genealogy sites, obituary databases, and public records — was a small paragraph. A name, a date, a surviving spouse. No photographs. No stories. No sense of who this person actually was when they were alive. My daughter had asked the most natural questions in the world, and the internet — for all its vastness — had almost nothing to offer her.
That moment stayed with me. The idea that an entire life could pass through this world and leave almost no trace beyond a stone and a few lines of text felt like something worth trying to fix.
“Every person deserves more than a paragraph.”
My children are older now. I've spent years in the back of my mind turning that walk into something real, and now I finally have the ability to build it. I started by creating memorials for my own family — preserving their stories, their photographs, the small details that made them who they were. And then I realized this wasn't something to keep to myself.
Charted Legacy is built for every family that has ever stood at a headstone and wondered about the person beneath it. It's built for the curious child who deserves a real answer, and for the family who wants to make sure their loved one's story doesn't disappear when the obituary page goes offline. A name on a stone is the beginning of a story — Charted Legacy is where the rest of it lives.
Our Promise
Built for memories. Not for clicks.
Social media was never designed for memory. It was designed for engagement — and engagement means advertisements, algorithms, and distraction. When families turn to Facebook or Instagram to preserve someone they love, they are handing irreplaceable memories to platforms that track every click, show ads on every page, and make no guarantee about what will still exist five years from now.
We believe the people we love deserve better than that.
Charted Legacy is built on a different foundation. There are no advertisements on memorial pages — not now, not ever. We do not track your behavior across the web. We do not sell your information. We do not use your data to decide what you see next. What you share with us stays with us, protected and presented exactly the way you intended.
Our only purpose is helping you preserve the people who matter most. That is all we do — and it is enough.
No Ads. Ever.
Memorial pages will never carry advertisements — not on free accounts, not on paid ones.
No Tracking.
We do not follow you across the web or build a profile of your behavior to sell to third parties.
Your Data is Yours.
We will never sell, share, or monetize your personal information or the memories you entrust to us.
How It Works
- 01
Create a beautiful memorial page for your loved one — their portrait, biography, photos, videos, and the answers to the questions that matter.
- 02
Order a laser-engraved stainless steel plaque with a unique QR code, designed to adhere permanently to any headstone.
- 03
Anyone who visits the grave and scans the plaque is taken directly to the memorial — their full story, right there at the graveside.
